Shtawi Fig

Shtawi Fig

Tree from rooted cutting, Source cutting from harveyc / figaholics, Jan 2016

Observations based on Chandler, AZ Growing conditions:

Breba Crop: No
Main Crop: 1
Vigor: high vigor
Production: high productivity

This is a Lebanese fig. It is requires a long hot growing season. The attraction of this fig is that it ripens in early winter. This tree is very vigorous and produced an abundance of long-necked green/yellow-skinned teardrop shaped figs. While there is only 1 late main crop, the tree was loaded with figs. But because the tree is still young and from uneven irrigation in November (my mistake) the fruits split before they were ripe in early December. The figs were almost ripe with an amber flesh, but the flavor was not developed, so I can't comment on the taste.

Dec 2017: Shtawi is the tree in the middle with leaves. You can see it is absolutely loaded with figs

Apr 2018: Trimmed back severely (from 7 feet to 6 inches) during the winter and it is flushing out like crazy in the spring
