Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus umbellata)
Source plants (many 1 yr old seedlings) from Burnt Ridge Nursery, Jan 2017
I bought these plants to be an understory nitrogen-fixer. The Elaeagnus family fixes nitrogen using a whole different set of bacteria than legumes do. So I cut several plants to a low height to be understory plants and I let a couple get large. The leaves do have an oblong quality reminiscent of olive leaves. So far, not flowers or fruit.
