I bought this plant to be an understory nitrogen-fixer. The Elaeagnus family fixes nitrogen using a whole different set of bacteria than legumes do. But what is really amazing me about this plant is how absolutely gorgeous the leaves are. Yellow and green variegated, looks like watercolors. It loves the shade so it is a perfect understory plant.
