Natal Plum (Carissa macrocarpa)
Seedlings, source seeds from Trade Winds Fruit, June 2016
These are not dwarf natal plums, which are used as common landscape plants around here. I have dwarf natal plums in my yard which seem to bloom but not set fruit. I am growing these because they love the heat and sun and will produce fruit. Natal Plum fruit (I have not tried yet) if you let it get really ripe is supposed to be like a sweet cranberry. They are medium fast growing, but seem to love the sun and heat. I started these as seeds in 2016. In 2017 I planted them in the ground in front of the pots on the east side of my pool, which are against a western facing block wall (reflected heat, afternoon sun). But the plants love this spot.
